What is LASIK Eye Surgery?
LASIK (Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis) is a surgical procedure that corrects vision problems such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism by reshaping the cornea, the clear dome-shaped surface at the front of the eye.
How Does LASIK Work?
During a typical LASIK procedure, an excimer laser is used to remove microscopic amounts of tissue from the cornea. The laser reshapes the cornea by creating a thin flap, which is then lifted and gently folded back to allow for the implantation of an intraocular lens (IOL) to replace the damaged or cloudy corneal tissue.
Benefits Of LASIK
LASIK offers numerous benefits, including improved vision quality, increased independence, and reduced need for glasses or contact lenses. Additionally, LASIK can reduce the risk of eye diseases such as cataracts and glaucoma.
