What Is A Desert And Some Of Its Characteristics?

A desert is a large area of land that receives very little precipitation throughout the year, typically less than 25 centimeters (10 inches) per year. Deserts can be found on every continent except Antarctica.

During the day, the sun heats the dry soil and sand, causing it to evaporate quickly into the atmosphere. At night, the temperature drops significantly, and the air cools rapidly, resulting in clear skies and a lack of moisture. This process is known as evapotranspiration, which is the combination of evaporation from living plants and transpiration from plants.
