400 Bad Request

The Social Security Administration (SSA) has made changes to its process for awarding direct fee payment to attorneys and non-attorneys representing claimants. In FY 2017, the SSA introduced a new policy that allows certain individuals to receive direct fee payments for title 2 claimsant representation.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for direct fee payment, an individual must meet specific criteria, including being an attorney with experience in social security benefits law or a non-attorney who is a recognized expert in their area of expertise. Additionally, the individual must have a demonstrated need for representation and provide documentation to support this claim.

Benefits and Limitations

The direct fee payment program provides recipients with more flexibility and autonomy in managing their claims. Recipients can receive payments in cash or as direct deposit, making it easier to manage their benefits. However, the SSA may still have restrictions on certain types of transactions and activities related to claimant representation.
