Colorado's Rocky Mountains: Tips To Keep Safe Driving

Driving in Colorado's Rocky Mountains can be a thrilling experience, but it also comes with its own set of challenges. From steep mountain roads to unpredictable weather conditions, drivers need to be extra cautious on the road.

1. One of the main safety concerns is altitude sickness. As you ascend higher elevations, the air pressure decreases, which can cause headaches, nausea, and fatigue. Make sure to check the weather forecast before embarking on a long drive and consider breaking up your journey into smaller segments.
2. Another important consideration is road conditions. Snowy roads can be particularly hazardous, especially if you're not familiar with driving in winter conditions. Keep an eye out for black ice, which can be hard to spot and even harder to avoid.

Additional Safety Tips

• Slow down on steep mountain roads, especially during peak rush hour. This will give you more time to react to any obstacles or unexpected events.
• Use your high beams only when necessary, and be cautious not to shine the light directly into other drivers' eyes.
