What is a Dash Light?
A dash light, also known as a warning light or message light, is an indicator on your dashboard that displays a warning message or problem with your vehicle. These lights can alert you to potential issues, such as low fuel, faulty sensors, or engine problems.
Identifying Dash Lights
- A dash light may display a numerical code that corresponds to the problem it's indicating. For example, a "check engine" light might display a number like 0x7B (P216) or 0xE5 (P221).
- The color of the dash light can also indicate its severity. Red lights typically indicate critical problems, while green lights may signal minor issues.
Addressing Dash Lights
To address a dash light issue, first consult your owner's manual or repair manual for specific instructions. In most cases, you can press and hold the corresponding button (usually the green button on the center console) until the dashboard lights fade out.
- Some vehicles may require the ignition switch to be turned off and then back on before the dash light will go away.
- If the issue persists, you can try resetting the system by pressing the button repeatedly for a few seconds.
