Discover how to make friends as a child, based on our expert tips and tricks. Here are some valuable insights into making friends in childhood.

The key to making friends as a child is often misunderstood. Many parents think that it's easy for their kids to form close relationships with others, but the reality is that social connections can be tricky to establish.

Establishing Connections in School

To make friends at school, it's essential to know your classmates and find common ground. This can include sharing similar interests, joining a sports team or club, and being open-minded about different cultures and backgrounds.

Around 5-6 years old, children often start to form close bonds with their peers. However, this can also be a challenging time for parents, who may feel guilty about their child's social life or worry that they're not doing enough to support their friendships.

Online Communities and Social Media

As children enter primary school, the internet becomes an integral part of their lives. However, this also means that they may have limited opportunities for face-to-face interactions with other kids in their community.

"The key is to find online communities or social media groups where your child can connect with others who share similar interests," advises Emma from Fixitrightplum. "This could be a sports team, a club, or even a social media group for parents and children. This will help foster connections in their community."

Building Strong Relationships

"To build strong relationships with other kids, it's essential to be genuine and authentic," says David from Fixitrightplum. "This means being kind, empathetic, and respectful towards others. By doing so, your child will develop a sense of belonging and trust with their peers."

"Finding friends as a child can be challenging, but it's not impossible," concludes Emma.
