Gi Kata in Tokaido Karate
Tokaido Karate is a style of karate that originated in Japan. Gi kata, or forms, are the fundamental techniques used in this martial art. These forms are typically practiced at a higher level than kumite (sparring), and they focus on technique, strength, and endurance.
Types of Gi Kata
- Shodan gi kata: the first form in a style's curriculum, typically taken after beginners have completed their first level of training.
- Nidan gi kata: the second form, usually taught after students have completed Shodan and are ready for more advanced techniques.
- Sandan gi kata: the third form, commonly practiced by intermediate practitioners who want to challenge themselves.
