Washing Your Judo Gi
The most important thing when washing your judo gi is to use cold water. Hot water can shrink or damage the fabric, and washing in hot water can also cause colors to fade.
- Use a mild detergent specifically designed for wool or cotton fabrics, as harsh detergents can damage the material.
- Pre-treat any stains or spots on the gi with a solution of equal parts white vinegar and water before washing.
- Wash the gi in a mesh laundry bag to protect it from snagging or tangling while the wash cycle is running.
Drying Your Judo Gi
The drying process should also be done carefully to prevent damage to the fabric and shrinkage. Here's how:
- Reshape your judo gi while it's still slightly damp, using a towel or cloth to gently mold it into its original shape.
- Hang your judo gi to dry in a well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight. Avoid hanging near radiators or heaters.
- Do not use heat dryers or tumble dryers for your judo gi, as this can cause shrinkage, felting, or damage to the fabric.
