What is Intellectual Property?
Ilectual property refers to the exclusive rights granted to creators and inventors for their original works, such as inventions, artistic creations, literary works, and symbols of identity. These rights protect a person's or entity's investment of time, effort, and resources into creating something new.
Types of Intellectual Property
- Songs and Music: Copyrights grant the owner exclusive rights to reproduce, distribute, and display their work.
- Patents: Grant the owner exclusive rights to make, use, and sell a new and useful invention for a certain period of time.
- Trademarks: Protect distinctive signs or symbols that identify a person's or business's brand or goods.
Understanding Intellectual Property Law
IPL law is governed by the U.S. Constitution, 14th Amendment, and 18th Amendment. It's primarily concerned with protecting inventions, artistic works, and other forms of expression from unauthorized use or infringement.
