Tips For Homeowners After A Flooding Disaster

Before the flood, consider installing storm shutters or impact-resistant windows to protect your home. You can also elevate electrical outlets and switches to at least 30 inches above the finished floor level.

After the flood, remove any standing water from your home by using a wet/dry vacuum or towels. If there's significant damage, consider hiring a professional to assess and remediate any structural issues. Keep in mind that mold and mildew can form quickly after a flood, so be sure to address this as soon as possible.

Disaster Preparedness Tips

Before the flood, make sure you have an emergency plan in place. This should include contacting your insurance company and letting them know of any potential damage or displacement. Keep important phone numbers, such as your insurance provider and a utility company, easily accessible.

Insurance And Recovery Tips

If you're the homeowner affected by the flood, consider filing an insurance claim to cover any damage or losses. Keep all receipts and documentation related to repairs or replacements for damaged items.
