Creating and Sharing Maps on Google My Maps
Create an account at Google Accounts and follow these steps to create a new map:
- Sign in to your Google Account: Enter your email address, password, and other information to access the map creation tool.
- Click on the "Create" button: Select the type of map you want to create (e.g. street view, satellite view) and enter a title for your map.
- Add markers and other elements**: Use icons, labels, and text to customize your map as needed.
Share your map by clicking on the three dots next to each marker or element and selecting "Copy link": this will create a unique shareable link for your map.
Advanced Map Sharing Options
Maps can also be shared with others using a variety of advanced options:
- Embeddable links**: Use the "Embed" button to create shareable embeddable links for your map on websites or other online platforms.
- Google Sites integration**: Create custom Google Maps apps using Google Sites, a free online tool that allows you to build interactive maps and presentations.
In addition to these advanced options, be sure to follow Google's guidelines for map sharing, including:
- Respect users' privacy**: Avoid posting personal or sensitive information about individuals in your maps.
- Follow local regulations**: If you're creating maps in a specific location (e.g. a national park), be sure to comply with any relevant laws and regulations.
