Protect Your Home and Family
- Cover your home with a waterproof covering, such as tarps or plastic sheets, to prevent further water damage.
- Remove any furniture or fixtures that are in contact with the floodwaters to prevent electrical shock or further damage.
- Turn off utilities and appliances connected to the main electrical panel to prevent power surges.
Assess Your Damage
Take photos of your home's interior and exterior before cleaning up to document damage. Check for signs of structural damage, such as cracks in walls or ceilings.
In case you have a home warranty, contact the manufacturer to schedule repairs and replacements.
Prevent Future Flooding
Floods can be unpredictable. To minimize damage and prevent future flooding, consider installing flood-proof doors and windows, and elevate electrical outlets to at least 12 inches above finished floor level.
